Geartrade: Spring Gear Roundup
Spring is springing here in Utah, and we have to say, we’re amped up. With the longer days come the possibility for “Utah triathlons,” in which we can combine multiple sports like skiing, running, biking, or climbing all in one glorious day—and still have enough light for a sunset beer.
As you go through your gear pile to start switching from winter sports to warm-weather adventures, you’ll spy a few things that could use replacing—or that you might want to list and sell on Geartrade to fund other cool gear.
We’ve got a bevvy of spring gear in stock. Some of it is gently-used UnNew, and some of it is fresh out of the box!
We recently posted a thorough Rain Jacket Buyer’s Guide, and it’s worth a read-through if you’re in the market. Spring is one of the rainiest seasons in many regions of the U.S., so it’s best to keep a good packable rain shell stowed in your hiking, climbing, or biking pack. It’s no fun to get sopping wet on an outdoor adventure, and if you get too cold and wet, the situation can turn scary.
You can explore our current selection of excellent rain jackets from the likes of Helly Hansen, Patagonia, The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Columbia, and more.
Trail running shoes
Spring is heaven for trail runners: the trails have dried off but haven’t gotten too toasty yet. The air is cool and soothing, and the plants are just starting to come to life.
Most trail running shoes have a limited lifespan and should be replaced every few hundred miles because their shock absorption and tread start to wear down. Now is a great time to pull yours out of the closet and assess how much life they have left in them. If you have a favorite brand, chances are that we have some in stock! And if you’re considering trying something new, we highly recommend trying UnNew first to see if a used shoe is the right fit for you. You can enjoy some solid mileage on it, too.
At this moment, we have a fantastic variety of trail running shoes from Salomon, Saucony, Arc’teryx, Altra, Salewa, and Dynafit. You can also browse running clothing and accessories, including running vests, water flasks, caps and visors, and socks.
As hiking season roars back to life, it’s time to assess your footwear, socks, clothing, hydration, first aid kit, and daypacks. What could use a little refurbishing or replacing?
You can have a peek at the current selection of hiking boots and hiking shoes on Geartrade for some inspiration. High-topped hiking boots provide wonderful ankle support, especially on uneven terrain or when carrying a heavy pack. And low-topped hikers are a wonder for saving weight.
You can also scope some of our breathable clothing layers, abrasion-resistant hiking shorts and pants, first-aid kit supplies, water bottles and hydration systems, and day-bags. We’ve got a handy Hiking Essentials article on our blog, which is a great place to start with your hiking gear checklist for this year!
Mountain bikers, we needn’t tell you how exciting this season is, because you’re probably off getting your bikes tuned already. With blissful desert temperatures and tacky mountain trails in primo condition, this is your moment.
On Geartrade, you can buy every single thing you need (other than fitness; can’t help ya there). Browse clothing and jerseys, tights and shorts, cycling shoes, helmets, pedals, and parts—there are even a few full bikes for sale at any given moment. There’s plenty of time to up your game—or your kit—before the spring biking season hits full swing if you make your strategic moves now.
The sun is now deliciously heating up the rock while the air remains cool and breezy. There’s no time to waste in inspecting your climbing shoes, approach shoes, packs, ropes, slings, biners, and pro to make sure everything is in ship-shape. Fill the gaps in your usable gear with UnNew and unused gear available now on Geartrade from brands like Edelweiss, Beal, Bluewater, Sterline, Scarpa, La Sportiva, and Five Ten.
There’s always a little something you could use more of while climbing, whether it’s a few more lockers, another sling or two, or some extra nuts. Here’s your big chance to round out the stockpile.
The snow’s melting up high, and the whitewater is flowing. It’s high time for river trips and water play. As you run through your gear checklists and get your permit ducks in a row, think about what would make your paddling adventures easier. Perhaps it’s time for a new rack for your boat, or you could use a new dry bag or paddle.
We’ve got plenty of UnNew gear perfectly suited for our paddler friends, ranging from actual boats to racks, PFDs, paddles, river sandals, and the extras that make river life better, like proper camp kitchens and comfy tents.
We’re psyched on summer and can’t wait to see y’all out on the trails and rivers. Take plenty of pics with your UnNew gear and don’t forget to tag us so we can bask in your adventures’ glory!
